Schedule

Day 1: Panorama river cruise

After your transfer from Saigon to Can Tho you check into your exclusive houseboat, the Gecko Eyes in the late afternoon. We cast off and leave behind the political and economic center of the Mekong delta. The mighty bridge with its filigree details slowly disappears on the horizon. Enjoy lunch in the panorama-lounge, while the ship floats on the powerful Mekong river channel in the direction of Long Xuyen. On this part of the route the river appears very busy with a lot of commercial traffic and all kinds of ships which make the journey even more exciting.

In the afternoon we will arrive in Long Xuyen where you can visit the floating market. It takes place right in front of the impressive market hall which characterizes the silhouette of the provincial capital. Tourists are still hard to find in this part of the area.

Afterwards we turn into a smaller branch of the Mekong and we head towards Rach Gia, the port city at the Gulf of Thailand, where we arrive early evening. There will be several opportunities to take beautiful pictures at the busy little channels and some land excursions, during which you can see Cao Dai temples, local markets, small towns, manufactories and the colorful traditional brickworks. You will spend the night on board the Gecko Eyes in the vicinity of Rach Gia.

Day 2: Cruise through the exotic water landscape

After a trip through the channels of Rach Gia you will head east and out of the city. You will pass branches of the fishing suburbs, where numerous impressive fishing boats lie right in front of houses. We go past shipyards building those formidable ocean-going wooden fishing boats. Soon it will get more quite and its time to leave behind the areas with well-developed infrastructure. We drive south along small channels and meandering stream courses. Traffic as well as settlements become less and less. From a tourism perspective we will enter new territory due to the lack of tourist infrastructure. Only a few international travelers visit this region. This gives us the chance to explore the original Mekong delta. Again, you spend the night on board of the houseboat, right in the middle of the colorful water world of the southern delta. Enjoy the remoteness and peace of the South!

Day 3: Immerse in the green of the delta

We spend the day in the green of the delta. The Gecko Eyes floats through the beautiful stream landscape along small branches and powerful original river channels, which meander through the alluvial soil’s luscious green.
That’s how the Mekong delta must have looked like in most parts, before numerous channels were built. The river banks are lined with vast mangrove forests.
On board of your comfortable River Cruiser the crew spoils you with delicious gastronomic specialties and cold drinks.

You can enjoy nature and plantations as well as little villages at the water ways with your guide by bike or by foot. Sometimes you may even find traditional villages with thatched roofs alongside the river. Discover the traditional country life in the fertile alluvial land.

Day 4: Continued journey through the Delta

We will spend the day on board the Gecko Eyes cruising back to Can Tho, where you will arrive in the late afternoon. End of cruise.
